State Champion Meet - Tucson, AZ 2009 or WOW! Get out the broom!

So we just got back from Tucson, and the Aqua Stars had an outstanding meet! Some of the girls went to school on Friday, and they got down to the Ft. Lowell pool to do figures by 4. The parents thought the weather was perfect, but the girls, who were soaking wet in swim suits thought it was cold:) The pool was dirty, again, and they said it looks like the pool goes on forever. The water was so murky that they couldn't see the walls.

I wish I had taken more pictures, but the meets seem to be going fast this year. Maybe it's because Victoria is in more routines!

The 11/12's did figures Friday night, and that was followed by the 13/15 team routines. The girls looked great!!! Caitlin was sick, but you'd never know it from watching her swim! Then they had to get up early Saturday morning to do their figures! At least V. didn't have to swim her team routine between figures.

Parents still happy and rested early Saturday!

The rest of Saturday was trios, duets, and some of the solos.

The 13/15 underdog trio swam very well! I had the camera at the wrong setting so none of those pictures came out :( I did get some pics of the 13/15 trio with C., L., and M.

Duet warm up:
Wow! Look at those suits!

Saturday night, we, along with the Roots and Donahue's went out for pizza. After, we hung out at the fire by the pool area at the hotel. the girls got bored and went back to one of the rooms to play cards. I just noticed that Chloe is the only one without braces!

The girls have been working very hard since Riverside. I think they didn't like coming in 4th. even if it was very tough competition. It was almost like a reminder of coming in 4th at the Assoc. meet in January. Several girls came in for private sessions, some for the first time, and they all stayed for extended practices. Their hard work really payed off. They swam 7th out of 7, and we were all a little nervous about that. They swam their hearts out.

When they finished swimming, we knew the composite scores of the other teams. We were hoping they would get a score of at least 57 which would put them in about 2nd. place. It took a while but they announced the score, and it was 59.885!!! We were so happy for the girls, a few of us could barely contain ourselves! Michelle started yellilng "They won! They won!" I turned to her while I was probably yelling something inaudible and we started jumping up and down making a ton of noise. Bob said he should have taken a picture of us! We knew the final placement might be different because of figure scores, but we knew that even with figures they would qualify for Regionals.

We were right. Not only did they still qualify for Regionals, they placed first! They took the gold at state, and are more than likely to go to Nationals in June!

victoria and Maddy's 11/12 duet came in 6th out of 15! Very good showing! The 11/12 trio took Silver, and they're on their way to Regionals! I didn't write anything down, so I don't remember how other routines did. I'll update the blog when I get that.

the Aqua Stars had wonderful State Meet! All the team routines took gold! 11/12, 13/15 and 16/17 team routines, it was a clean sweep!

After the meet, we stopped at Beyond Bread for lunch. the girls were very happy and almost bouncing off the walls!

P. on the phone, giving the good news to her dad:

Regionals will be here in Mesa, May 15th & 16th.
Then, on to Florida in June!!

Riverside March 20-21 2009

Riverside was a lot of fun this year! Some of the girls had been there before, and for some, it was their first real travel meet. We all arrived safely Friday night and had dinner together at Applebee's. Coach Shannon sat with the girls and didn't let them order junk! Saturday morning we were all at the pool at 6am and started the morning off with figures. Although the forecast was for sun, the fog didn't burn off until 11:00, so it was quite cold all morning. Sunday was worse, it was only in the upper 40's/low 50's, rainy and windy all morning and into the early afternoon. The girls toughed it out, and swam well.

I had to lighten up this picture of the duet warming up
because there was no sun!

The 13-15 trio swam with a lot of energy
even though they were very tired.

Hey, don't those suits look great?!

The 11-12 trio took third place!

Some of the girls waiting to go to the pool on Sunday morning.

The first lift went very well!

The Team routine came in Fourth, against some very stiff competition. the swim scores for the top four routines were very close! Our girls were right up there with some good California teams.

Look! Coach Shannon smiling! :)

Although I didn't get their picture, the Little duet of Eryn and Aimee took First Place!

Just hangin' out Saturday afternoon. You can't really see it, but Walnut Creek had a great set up. They had a purple canopy with their team name across the front and a tent that faced into the canopy area. By sunday they had a tent on each side of the canopy. Great idea for the rain! BTW, this is the first photo I took with the phone to try to send to this blog. I think it works well. If you click on the photo, you can see it full sized, and copy for yourself.
